October is Islamic History Month
CFRC is pleased to commemorate Islamic History Month in Kingston, this October 2009. Tune into the following special broadcasts:
Mondays, 5:30-6pm - A Study of the Muslim Species: this weekly program hosted by Jee and Haad features discussions on current events affecting Muslims, as well as stories about the Muslim experience, at the local, national and global level.
Monday, October 12, 4-5pm - The Wildcard presents Dr. Seyyid Hossein Nasr’s 2007 Islamic History Month address on: The Interconnections of Islamic Art, Science and Spirituality
Monday, October 19, 4-5pm - Audible Insurrections: for a radio program dedicated to Arab and Muslim comic books and authors.
Monday, October 26, 4-5pm - The Wildcard presents Dr. Adnan Husain’s 2008 Islamic History Month address on: The Muslims of Medieval Europe: Lost Histories and their Modern Consequences
Islamic History Month Kingston is also featuring a variety of events including a film screening, talks on Islamic Banking and Finance, as well as Muslims and Human Rights in Canada, a panel on Islamic Feminisms and more. For more information visit http://www.islamichistorymonthkingston.org/

Live In-Studio Performance: We Are The City
This Thursday at 1:00, three piece progressive indie rock act, ‘We Are The City’ is stopping by Studio A at Carruthers Hall to do a live performance. We Are The City features three young composers: Cayne McKenzie on vocals and keys, David Menzel on guitar, and Andy Huculiak on the drums. Cayne’s symphonic piano arrangements flow into David’s guttural guitars and the grand heartbeat of Andy’s drums, as the vocals slink from soft melodies into gruff howls. Their songs paint out a sincere and beautiful interpretation of life; exploring evocative sounds and storytelling.
The trio is preparing for a show on Thursday evening at Clark Hall Pub on Queen’s Campus.

Audible Insurrections - A shift in time, people and focus
AI will now be airing on the 3rd Monday of the month from 4-5pm on the Wild card, starting with Monday September 21st. Tune in to hear a program exclusively devoted to comics. This month, Sayyida Jaffer and Yazan Al Saadi will discuss alternative comics. GroundWire is a 29-minute news radio program featuring headlines, reports and features from the community radio sector in Canada. Every two weeks a campus/community radio station from across Canada produces an episode, and for the first episode of September, CFRC has this honour.
